About

Watercolor Flower Paintings and Prints by Karen Faulkner

Welcome to my studio! I have been painting for more than twenty years and selling my original watercolors and prints to customers around the world since 2007. Prior to that, I had a career in marketing communications of which my favorite aspect of my duties was collaborating with the art department.

We live in a complicated, often stressful world. I seek respite through my painting, and I hope that my watercolors to give others the same kind of escape into peace and joy when they look at them. I truly enjoy the flow and unpredictability of working with watercolor. It is a great metaphor for allowing one's life to flow.

I love being around nature. When I'm not painting, I enjoy spending time outdoors in the garden, cutting and arranging flowers, taking photographs and generally getting up close to nature and observing its beauty. Once back in the studio, I paint intuitively. I strive for my work to be a painting Haiku of sorts, capturing an essence and expressing simplicity. Beneath the simplicity of each watercolor there lies a sense of joyfulness, serenity, reflection, exuberance or other emotion.

Some of the places I have visited and found inspiration are Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania, The Philadelphia Flower Show, The New York Botanical Garden, The San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers, The Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix Arizona, Claude Monet's Gardens at Giverny France, and Saint Stephen's Green in Dublin Ireland. On a much smaller and less successful scale, I attempt to grow my own flowers and herbs at my home in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Thank you for visiting and please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
