This latest painting is inspired by a hydrangea in my garden. Mid to late summer it was covered with white, snowball-like blooms. As summer has started to fade, the blossoms have provided an ever-changing show of subtle colors. From white, to pale green, to green with shades of pink, that are now darkening to the color of Beaujolais wine.
Hydrangeas remind me of summers in New England, coastal Rhode Island to be specific (walkways and white picket fences lined with them in vibrant periwinkle blue). Sigh. I wish summer could stay a bit longer.
